Epson 850Z Instructions for OneShot360™
Recommended Camera Settings for OneShot360
- First make sure that the camera is in Manual Programming Mode. To do this, turn the camera on to the Info/Set mode, which is indicated by a lower-case letter "i" on the dial (3 notches below "Off"). Press the "MENU" button located below and to the left of the color LCD screen to see the current settings. The programming mode button is on the left of the LCD screen,
the second button from the top. Choose "Manual".
- Now turn the camera on to the capture mode which activates the color LCD screen (two notches above "Off" on the dial)
- Use the "Hypict" resolution mode for best results. There are 3 buttons located near the camera On/Off/Mode switch on the top of the camera. The resolution button with the star-symbol is the one to press to scroll through the 4 resolution settings. "Hypict" mode is the mode for which 3 stars and the letter "H" appear on the camera LCD screens.
- Disable the flash on your Epson PhotoPC 850Z. The flash mode button is located directly below the image resolution button.
- The Epson PhotoPC 850Z is equipped with a 10 second timer. This allows the photographer to exit the area before the shot is taken. The button to set the timer is located directly below the flash mode button. The timer must be re-enabled after each shot.
- We recommend zooming in until the circular OneShot360 image exactly fills the digital camera LCD viewer screen. If you zoom in too much, you will lose part of the field of view. If you zoom in too little, you will not get maximum resolution. Note also that the OneShot360 image may not be exactly centered in the LCD screen – this is normal. The zoom control dial surrounds the shutter release
button on top of them camera. You must re-calibrate the zoom level after powering the camera down.
- Place the camera in aperture priority mode. To scroll through the available exposure modes, press the uppermost button to the left of the color LCD screen. The exposure mode automatically switches back to its default, "Auto Exposure", when the camera is turned off and then on again. You must re-enable aperture priority mode after powering down.
- Next choose an aperture setting of f/8. The two buttons to the right of the "MENU" button below the color LCD screen are the ones which allow you to scroll through the available aperture settings.
- Set the white balance to Automatic by pressing the button located on the back of the camera labeled W.B. until AUTO is shown on the LCD screen.
- Use a focus setting of 10 feet. Press the button beneath and at the far right of the color LCD screen (beneath where it says "Menu Change" on the LCD). Now, in the new menu screen which appears, the buttons on the left side of the color LCD screen labeled "+" and "-" allow you to scroll through the available focus settings. When the symbol of three figures appears,
you have selected focus distance of 10 feet.
Recommended Camera Settings for OneShot360Plus
When taking 360x360 images, follow all of the above instructions, and the additional instructions below. Because the Oneshot360Plus uses 4 images, it is best to make sure that all 4 images have the same exposure. This will ensure the end result will have a continuous tone and density throughout the image. The best way to do this with the Epson 850Z is to:
- Try to make the scene as evenly balanced with the same type of light as possible. For example, close window shades to avoid harsh uneven lighting, and turn on interior lights to try to balance the brightness.
- You can also try setting the white balance to a fixed setting. This will keep the camera from shifting the white balance between shots. To do this, press the button on the back of the camera labeled W.B. until FIX is shown on the LCD screen. This will make sure all the images taken will have a fixed white balance.
- To make sure your exposure is even in all 4 shots, first you’ll need to take an exposure reading. Press the menu button so you will be able to see the camera settings. While still in aperture priority mode, set the f-number to f8, then press the shutter half way down until you see a meter reading on the LCD screen. It should display the shutter speed needed (in a yellow color) for a proper
exposure. Please take a note of it. Now, switch the mode from Aperture priority to Manual Exposure. Reset the f-number to f/8, and then set the shutter speed to the speed you noted earlier, by using the “+” and “-“ buttons.
- Set the self –timer.
- Disable the flash.
- Now you are ready to capture a 360x360 set of images.
- Before beginning the next 360x360 shot, you should return to the steps above and reset the exposure for each scene with different lighting conditions.
Optional Camera Settings
You may wish to change the period of time that passes before the camera automatically shuts itself off. To do this, turn the camera on to the Info/Set mode which is indicated by a lower-case letter "i" on the dial (3 notches below "Off"). Under "Camera SETUP", press the button nearest where it says "PowerSave" on the color LCD screen. The options are 10 seconds,
30 seconds, 1 minute, 3 minutes and 5 minutes.
